Seeking Wisdom

According to the book of Proverbs, wisdom calls us. Depicted as a woman, she represents an attribute of God. She nobly stands near us, dictating the correct steps to our choices. Her weighty words are to be treasured. Preserved to navigate our circumstances, her words lead us to life. It is up to us to heed her directions.

Present at the beginning of time, she figuratively walked beside Creator God (Proverbs 8:30). Wisdom delighted in the birth of creation. Wisdom’s eternal presence never ages, and her understanding is never outdated. Her ancient words direct us to live as Jesus lived.

Imagine you are granted permission to see Wisdom, when prompted by the Holy Spirit, she opens her hands, raining jewels upon the people of the earth. Those who receive her gift are adorned with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, leading to righteousness.

You hear the wise expressing compassionate words and encouraging people around them. Words of correction are shared in relationships and administered with grace and mercy. The warmth of respect resonates with all who receive and utilize her gift. Wisdom smiles as she bestows on those whose prayers are answered by God with her offerings. She is generous to those who ask and then obey the promptings originating from God.

She whispers, “Seek me you will find me.” (Proverbs 8:35)

She shares good judgment among her jewels, dosing the person with common sense. Partnered with discretion, wisdom brings understanding. Her beneficiaries glitter as they wisely move through life with integrity.

This personification of God’s wisdom weaves a picture of all the aspects we depend on when we ask God for wisdom. Through these “jewels,” we learn she is trustworthy enough to teach us the ability to reason and regulate ourselves. Through her, we act justly by using knowledge and discretion. Wisdom comes from God alone, there is no other reliable source.

Wisdom, an enigma to so many, is ours to receive. Our source of wisdom is Jesus. Through His Spirit, we acquire this gift to navigate our journey through life. Paul refers to wisdom and knowledge as “hidden treasures” that bring us understanding. (Colossians 2:2-4) These treasured jewels, enveloped in Christ, are revealed through our relationship with Him.

We must ask and we will receive it.

Throughout the poetic writings of the book of Proverbs, this godly characteristic is symbolized as a woman. Now it is your turn. How do you see wisdom fitting into your life? .
