Renewed and Repurposed
“What is my purpose?”
Asking myself this question, I leaned into the mirror, I saw a much older face than I expected. True it is my face but sometimes I forget that I am aging. I’m sixty-one, my life shifted into a new season, and I felt unsure of what was next. God makes all things new, so certainly He would do this for me AND YOU as we age.
We are not finished!
Regeneration is an ongoing process that God wants to continue in each of us. Our lives don’t have one purpose; they evolve with each new phase. But shifting into a new season can rattle our normal daily rhythms. So how do we find our new direction in a new season? I want to live a life full of vigor to the end of my days.
How do I live a full life in this new season?
- Your purpose does not define your identity and a lack of direction is not a measure of your worth. Remember who you are in God. Jesus gave us the right to be called a precious child of God. (John 1:12) Your purpose does not define your identity.
- Don’t compare but investigate your gift and talents. We serve the God of the impossible and His creative spirit is in you. This is not a dreary task but a life-giving adventure. Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others and trust Him to complete the good work He began in you. (2 Corinthians 10:11-13)
- Ask God to awaken a new purpose. Don’t be dismayed if it takes time, do the task in front of you. Dreams come out of day-to-day life, little by little. Do the tasks at hand, He will open the doors as you cooperate with Him. (2 Timothy 2:19)
- Take time to rest and re-create. Many people of our generation don’t know how to do that. You have permission to rest, it is not selfish. This time of rest and recreation, restores us to do what God has for us. Rest rejuvenates us, giving us the energy to do more. God calls us to action and encourages us to live a balanced life. (Hebrews 4:9)
- Guard your self-talk. Capture erroneous thoughts (2 Corinthians 10:5) and let them go. Self-deprecating thoughts infiltrate and cloud our mood and don’t belong in our minds. Remember the Holy Spirit convicts to encourage change and freedom, not to bring shame. Freedom allows us to live in joy. (Proverbs 15:15)
As we enter a new season, recognize this can be an exciting time of discovery. Lean in and let God work in you. I’m cheering you on!
Great job Leslie!
Evolving is key.
I’m about to finish my one year commitment of full time day care for Brian’s first child. O what a blessing it has been.
Along with that, I’ve been training for movement therapy. It’s a technique that is easy on the clinicians body and it includes Jesus as the leader. It’s a blessing.
It’s so fun to watch you evolving!
