Luke 6 21 New Living Translation NLT 21 God blesses you who are hungry now for you will be satisfied
It started in March of 2018. Darkness and death invaded our home. We experienced loss and
unexpected financial strain. As spring turned to summer the invasion continued. Old wounds
were unearthed. We battled forward as our normal became an ongoing cry of simply saying “we can do this. It will be fine. It will get better. God is with us”
In late fall I broke my foot and my husband hurt his back. In the midst of all this menopause
arrived. I felt my anxiety level increase. I stopped looking to the future and concentrated on
getting through the day. We continued to say “we can do this. It will be fine. It will get better.
God is with us”
It did get better but it didn’t seem to get easier. Our injuries caused us to take short cuts in our
daily lives that left our home in organizational chaos. Energy was dumped into “catching up”.
Whatever that means. We continued to say “we can do this. It will be fine. It will get better. God
is with us”
Whispers came in the night. “Why pray. It won’t change anything. God will not answer. You are
in a desert season. He can’t hear you. You are alone.”
“No” I replied. Sometimes with a shout. Other times with a whimper. “My God doesn’t leave
me. Right God?”
Mistakes were made in the midst of chaos. Nothing serious but it contributed to the stress. Why
are we so forgetful? How could I have done that? Is this what getting old feels like? Old! I’m not
old. Or maybe I am? We continued to say “we can do this. It will be fine. It will get better. God is
with us”
Circumstance can overwhelm us. It can get to the point where you go through the motions just
to survive the day. BUT and this is important. We cannot allow this to become our habit. This is
an unacceptable normal. Survival seasons are just that seasons. They come to an end. We need
to fight back to enjoyment. We continue to say “we can do this. It is fine. It is better. God is with
us”
God empowers us to break the chokehold of darkness. He gives us all the fruit to fight. I am
learning to nurture joy. I embraced the words from Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength
and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” We continue to say “we can do this. It is
fine. It is better. God is with us”
In early spring, I turned to my husband and declared, “We need to have more fun.”
He agreed. Then he said, “What do we do for fun?”
A good question.
So now this summer we are on a quest to find fun. We are embracing Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) “A
cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” We are fighting back
and seeking the abundant life that Jesus promises. He is the source of our joy. Dare I say he is
the source of our fun? Won’t you join us as we find fun this summer? If you do share your fun
on social media please tag it with #findfun and tag me in it as well! Thanks, the links to my
