Thirty Days of Thanksgiving
Frustrated that we jump from Halloween to Christmas. I decided it was time to bring back thanksgiving. Not just one day of gorging ourselves but truly embracing gratitude. Honestly, we need to do this all year long. However, it is fun to grab a month and focus on giving thanks.
I wanted to find a personal way to bring this into our home. I announced to my family that we would write one item of gratitude each day of November. I cut out leaves from construction paper, grabbed a fistful of sharpies and we were set.
True five leaves a day for thirty days is a lot of leaves. 150 to be exact. Yes your hand cramps as your snip away at the colorful paper but trust me it is worth it. This has become a tradition, one my daughter now shares with her college roommates. My kids have enjoyed it so much, those not living at home anymore text in a daily "leaf". I write it on a leaf and add it to our wall.
Some leaves are silly and some sentimental. All bring joy to our home. It brings perspective and an understanding that even in our darkest days, we are blessed.
Colossians 1:11-12(NLT)11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.
